What can I expect from the night? |
At around 9pm, our DJ will start playing some music to get you in the party mood. Just before midnight we’ll count down to the main event. The dazzling 12-minute show will be backed by a specially-created soundtrack. Our DJ won’t leave until you’ve gone, so stay around a while after the show’s over. It’s the best way to avoid the crowds before you head home. |
Make sure you plan your journey home. There’ll be changes to transport on the night and many stations will be closed. You also won’t be able to cross the river above ground. That means you should try to buy a ticket on the same side of the river as your route home. We’ll have more detailed travel info nearer the time. |
What happens if there is bad weather on the night? |
As this is an outdoor event in winter, your experience might be affected by weather conditions like rain, low lying cloud, or wind but we'll do all we can to make it a fantastic occasion! However, we can’t be responsible for poor weather and unfortunately refunds will not be given in such instances. |
What can I take into the viewing areas? |
You can bring in your own food and drink – including reasonable amounts of alcohol – but you must not take any glass. You should carry everything you plan to drink yourself. Don’t carry for your whole group, or bring large amounts, as your drinks may be confiscated. |
Selfie sticks are fine, but please use them sensibly. |
You’ll be searched upon entry. Please only bring small bags and things you need. This will help speed up the process. We will be operating a bag restriction policy. This means no backpacks or suitcases will be allowed into the event. Please remember this to avoid being turned away at the entrance. |

Who is organising the event? |
London New Year's Eve is organised by the Mayor of London. Lots of other organisations support the planning of the event. |
These include Westminster City Council, the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, City of London Corporation, Metropolitan Police Service, British Transport Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, Transport for London, the Port of London Authority, lastminute.com London Eye, the Shell Centre and BBC. |
The event is produced by Identity Group Ltd on behalf of the GLA. |
Is this event suitable for young children? |
No, as a late night and crowded outdoor event, we strongly recommend you do not bring young children. Any under 16s who do attend must be with an adult. Everyone, whatever their age, must have a ticket to get in. |
Why might the main ticket buyer need to show photo ID to enter the event? |
This is to help us with security and to stop ticket touts. More people want to come to the fireworks than we have room for. We want to give everyone the same chance to get tickets on a first come, first served basis, and at face value (£20). That is only fair. |
The main ticket buyer may need to show photo ID at the entry gate to prove they bought their tickets legally. You must have your ticket with you on the night, you will need to either print this out or download the e-ticket to your phone. |
What ID can I use to get into the event? |
As the main ticket buyer, you may be asked to show photo ID that matches the name printed on your group’s tickets to get in. |
The best forms of photo ID are your passport or photo driving licence, or a good quality photocopy of either of these. If you don’t have either, stewards on the entry gates will decide whether to accept your alternative photo ID |
